I’m on the National Council of Women of Queensland’s (NCWQ) Bursary Selection Panel for 2014 and am here to tell you that if you are a young woman in Queensland, you should get on board and apply for some bursaries! There are 20 on offer, for a range of different things. You can take a look at the bursaries below, but I recommend you check out the NCWQ’s page for more information. Cairns Bursary

Application Form

  • A female tertiary student
  • Live in Cairns Regional Council Area (you may have relocated from home for your tertiary education)
  • Can demonstrate your contribution to the local community
  • An Australian citizen or a Permanent resident of Australia
DiH Health & Wellbeing Bursary
Application Form
  • Over 16 years of age
  • Diagnosed with a mental illness
  • Enrolled in or attending a post-secondary school education program or recognised course
Elements Living Bursary
Application Form
  • A female under the age of 25
  • Enrolled in full-time studies (or within 6 months of application)
  • Commitment to leadership in religious or community organisations to improve the lives of seniors
  • An Australian citizen or Permanent resident of Australia
Elsie Byth Bursary

Application Form

  • Female student enrolled in Year 12
  • Planning to study teaching on completion of secondary school
ESA Bursary

Application Form

  • Female student enrolled in first year of tertiary studies
  • Immediate family member with a cancer diagnosis at time of application
  • Live in regional or rural Queensland
  • Commitment to leadership through active participation in the community
Helen Ovens Bursary

  • Is now combining full-time or part-time study (either n campus or by distance/online) at a tertiary Institute, TAFE college or other post-secondary course with parenting responsibilities

NCWQ Bursary for a young woman from a refugee background

Application Form

  • Are a female high school student from a refugee background
  • Have the capacity and potential to achieve educational outcomes (not only University level)
  • Must attend the bursaries presentation ceremony to accept the bursary and speak publically.

Office for Women (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary

Application Form

  • An Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander woman
  • Enrolled in a tertiary studies program
  • An Australian citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia
Office for Women (Care) Bursary

Application Form

  • A  young woman, under the age of 25
  • Transitioning from care (i.e. young people who have been in the care of the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, and are transitioning to independence)
  • Enrolled in a tertiary studies program
  • An Australian citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia
Office for Women (Return to Work) Bursary

Application Form

  • A  female over the age of 25
  • Enrolled in a tertiary studies program
  • Returning to either full-time or part-time employment after a break from the workforce
  • An Australian citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia
Soroptimist International Bursary

Application Form

  • An Indigenous (Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander) female
  • Enrolled in nursing studies at either a Bachelor of  Nursing or Enrolled Nursing course
  • Studying in at least the second year of the program to become a registered nurse or enrolled nurse
  • Able to demonstrate leadership in your local community

  • Female tertiary student in Queensland
  • Demonstrated passion and ongoing commitment to international development and volunteering (i.e. overseas volunteering, volunteering with a NGO or not-for-profit organisation within Australia, tertiary studies in development, international relations or other related field.)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Able to demonstrate the desire to articulate and inform members of the Australian public on the aims and outcomes of international development and volunteering.
  • An Australian citizen
  • A female student enrolled in post secondary study
  • Eligible to receive a disability support pension
